The wire drawing process for metal surface

微信图片_2025-07-08_140132_874.jpg

Sheet metal wire drawing is the process of processing metal surfaces through mechanical friction to obtain surface patterns (also known as sanding), including wire drawing, straight lines, and circular ripples.

Wire drawing treatment can give the metal surface a non mirror like metallic luster, with a very strong decorative effect, and can be used on various types of metal products such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and iron,

Drawing can be divided into manual drawing and mechanical drawing. Common mechanical drawing methods include flat pressure sand belt drawing, non-woven roller brush drawing, wide sand belt drawing, and centerless grinding drawing.

The metal wire drawing process forms textures on the surface of metal, combining aesthetics and practicality. The following is an analysis of its main advantages and disadvantages:

advantage

Wide applicability: It can be applied to various metal materials such as stainless steel, ordinary steel, copper, aluminum, etc., to meet the processing needs of different materials.  ‌

Improving texture: Through different techniques such as straight lines and random patterns, personalized textures can be presented to enhance the visual effect and artistic sense of metal products.  ‌

Wear resistant and rust proof: Some metal wire drawing processes (such as stainless steel) have corrosion resistance and are suitable for kitchen utensils, building decoration, and other scenarios.  ‌

Easy to clean and maintain: The surface is smooth and anti fingerprint, with simple daily maintenance, suitable for high-frequency use scenarios.  ‌

disadvantage

High cost: High quality metal materials such as stainless steel have higher costs, and complex processes may increase production difficulty and expenses.

Potential scratch problem: Metal materials are prone to scratches, which are difficult to repair and may breed bacteria (such as stainless steel countertops).

Process limitations: Complex handling of corners or joints may affect overall aesthetics.  ‌

4. Type:

4.1 Flat pressure sanding belt drawing

Fix the workpiece on the mold, grind the sand belt under pneumatic control, and press the metal surface under the pressure block for wire drawing. Suitable for small, flat metal surfaces

4.2 Non woven roller brush drawing

The workpiece enters the high-speed rotating roller brush through the conveyor belt, and the roller brush quickly and uniformly draws the surface of the workpiece. Different lengths of lines can be generated by adjusting the vibration mode and processing speed of the roller brush. Suitable for large-area drawing, the drawing surface can be made flat, curved, or even small protrusions

4.3 Wide sand belt drawing

The sand belt rotates at high speed, and the sheet is polished and drawn by the conveyor belt through the sand belt. It is one of the most traditional drawing methods. Suitable for flat wire drawing, especially suitable for sheet metal processing. Commonly used for stainless steel elevator door panels, stainless steel counters, etc. The drawn lines are usually very thin and short, commonly known as snowflake patterns.

4.4 Heartless Grinding and Drawing

The wire drawing is carried out using a centerless grinding method, and the grinding tool used is a non-woven wire drawing wheel or sand belt. The lines that are particularly suitable for processing circular tubular workpieces are usually short threads, and their length is closely related to the rotation speed of the workpiece and the performance of the ground product.
